ESPN claim Sevilla, Roma, and Atletico are on the list of clubs following Alexandre Lacazette ahead of the summer. They add that Arsenal face a decision over whether to offer the striker a new deal or cash in on him in the upcoming window.

This is considering that the club will lose him for free in 2022 if they do neither. That’s when his current deal ends. Mikel Arteta is reportedly ‘signaling his intention’ to offer Lacazette a new deal, but evidently, Arsenal haven’t done so just yet.

Right now, Lacazette is in good form. He’s scored three in his last three Premier League starts, as well as forcing that own goal against West Ham.

But the 29-year-old’s Arsenal career has been full of these kinds of periods of good form, interspersed with goal droughts.

Lacazette scored three in his first three Premier League games of 2020/21, then went eight games without a goal. Then he scored four in his next three, before a period of one goal in seven games. Then he scored three in four.

When you’re in one of those spells of good form, everything is great. Then you get eight games where your central striker can’t put the ball in the net and suddenly you’re badly struggling for goals.

Realistically, Arteta should only look to extend Lacazette’s contract if he believes something is going to change next season – for whatever reason. Based on what we’ve seen for the last few years, the consistency just hasn’t been there.
