Speaking to OK! Magazine, Royal Biographer Andrew Morton explained how Princess Diana’s sentiments about the Royal Family were echoed by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry during their interview with Oprah on March 7. He also added that Diana would probably have joined Harry and Meghan for the interview.
“When I watched the interview I was smiling to myself because it was virtually a rehash of some of the sentiments that Diana expressed to me,” said Mr Morton.
“The isolation and not getting help. Clearly, they haven’t learnt the lesson there.”
The bombshell, tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey saw the Duke and Duchess of Sussex open up about their time as senior royals.
Meghan’s claims of feeling isolated and needing mental health support were reminiscent of Princess Diana’s experience with the Royal Family.
Mr Morton made comparisons between Meghan’s comments and the interview he conducted with the late Princess of Wales for his 1992 book ‘Diana: Her True Story – In Her Words’.
Meghan and Harry moved to America after their split from the Royal Family, which according to Mr Morton was not too far away from what Diana wanted too and said she probably would have taken part in the Oprah interview herself.
“She would probably have sat in on it,” said Mr Morton.
“She was on the edge of moving to America herself in the last year of her life.”
The Palace said that matters would be addressed “by the family privately” but have not issued any further statements in regard to the allegations.
